Prologue, Uncontrolled Magic:
Heart racing. Legs aching. Small little midnight colored
mists shooting from my hands. I run. From what? I had no idea. Maybe it was
myself. Maybe I was running away from the curse. Yes. A curse. The halls were
dark, and a stinging, sour taste of salt was sinking into my tongue. The scent
of the hallway was strange. Many scents mixed. I didn't know how to explain
that disgusting smell. The clatter of the stone floor against my boots was like
a shattering window. And the feel of soft mists coming from my hands. It was
cool, yet disgusting at the same time. I was running from this curse of mine
that would stay with me forever. I had no idea how to control it, but I had to.
This
hallway was stone bricks, some bricks had fallen onto the ground, while most of
the hall was still intact. Columns at the floor, crushing anything beneath
them. I kept running as fast as I could. Nothing was about to stop me. I had to
find a way to get control of this curse.
By the time
I had gotten all the way down the hall, I saw the stone doorway I was looking
for. I stopped running and gave myself a moment to breathe. When I was ready, I
walked normally through the door. My robes rustling gave a creepy incense to
the staircase I was walking down. I looked at the steps. This place is scary...I have to keep moving though. There may be
something down here to help me with this curse. I thought, closing my hands
into a fist. The magics coming from my hands stopped going crazy, and I felt
that I'd be okay for a while. Then I stepped on the last step, heard the noise
of an ice sheet coming over it, then felt myself falling forward. I forced my
clenched fists open, having another slippery substance spread onto the floor I
was trying to catch myself on, then having my hands hit the ground, sending my
legs up above my head into the air. I had done a summer salt. I landed on my
toosh and stood up, grasping to the wall, which was going to end up being turned
into something, and slid carefully over all the floor. Eventually I found
myself at a part that wasn't slippable and stepped onto it, still being careful
and letting go of the wall. I looked into the distance. There wasn't anything
but stone hallways. I gave a sigh then grasped onto the wall again, turning it
into a weird sticky substance and let go of it, being careful of the floor. I
made my way back up the stairs and through the messy stone hallway where I came
from.
Then the courtyard came into view. I started running out
into the field, many different types of magical abilities coming from my hands
and feet. I knew I should've been in my room, where I wouldn't mess anything
up, but what was the point of keeping myself there when I could cause trouble
outside? I jumped onto the small little pond, which turned into ice right as I
touched the water, I then slid off into the grass of the courtyard. It looked
like I was going to have to learn to ice-skate. I sighed. I really needed to be
able to control this magic.
Being five
years old, and having magic was not a good combination. I started to walk back
inside towards my room when a huge shadow came up from behind me. I bit my lip,
scare-dom bubbling inside me, and then tried to pretend it wasn't there. I kept
walking, the shadow moved with me. I knew it wasn't my shadow. No. Couldn't be.
Then I looked down at the shadow again and saw that the shadow's mouth was
moving.
I couldn't hear it. Nothing came. I turned around slowly, to
see a large tree behind me. I backed away slowly. Although it was just a tree,
it still freaked me out. It wasn't anything like the other ones in the
courtyard. As I walked backwards, I stepped onto the ice, and slipped back
towards the tree. Then the tree took a step towards me. I stood up as fast as
could, ignoring my random sorts of magic and quickly jumped as much as I could
over the pond and then slipped to the grass, still standing, then started to
run as quickly as I could again. Snow started to form below my feet. I looked
behind me, at the walking tree. It was now following me. I screamed and started
to run faster. Then I hit a wall, and slid down it, looking up at the tree,
that had gotten to me, and was leaning over me. I could feel my heart pumping
fast. Jell-O legs. This was just creepy. The tree soon moved one of it's
branches using it as a hand then reached for mine. I screamed again and pulled
my hand over my face, a cold substance shooting from my hand at the tree's
face. The tree dodged the magic and then pulled me up. I kicked the tree over,
as of it being about as big as I was, and then started running inside.
When I got
inside, I did my best not to let my magic show. My mother had magic too, and
she could control it. I must have gotten the magic from her, but for some
reason couldn't control mine. I ran towards my room, hoping none of my sisters
would see me, and then locked myself inside. My room was chaos. I looked around
at the crazy mess. There was midnight mist, ice, snow, crystal, tropical vines,
forest vines with spikes, and pretty
much anything that Sorcerer magic could do. I slipped down to the ground,
leaning on the locked door, and watched more ice grow across the floor as my hands
touched it. This was impossible. Five years of my life I had made this entire
mess in my room. My bed was about the only clean thing in my room, and it was
off in a corner that I never went to, I knew by now that if I touched my bed, I
would ruin it. I tried standing up, only to fall down again because of the ice
and then felt a mist beneath me. I laid down right there, tears coming from my
eyes. I started to cry.
It's a first draft, so it doesn't have great spelling.
